Food Intolerance vs Gut Healing: What’s the Difference?

Food Intolerance or Advanced Gut Healing Scan: Which One Do You Really Need?
One of the most common questions I get asked about our bioresonance hair scan is, "Which one do I need, and what’s the difference between the basic Food Intolerance Scan and Advanced Gut Healing Scan?" Here’s an article I’ve written to help distinguish between the two. It’s really quite a difference!
Many people come to us because they feel that food is causing their symptoms.
They may notice:
👎 Bloating after bread
👎 Stomach pain after dairy
👎 Skin flare-ups after certain meals
👎 Fatigue that seems worse after eating
In these cases, a Food Intolerance Scan can be very useful because it helps identify foods that may currently be irritating the body.
But there is an important question we always need to ask:
Is the food the real problem — or is the gut struggling to cope?
Food intolerance testing is helpful, but only part of the picture
A Food Intolerance Scan can help highlight foods that your body may not be tolerating well at the moment.
This can be helpful if you are experiencing symptoms such as:
👎 Bloating
👎 IBS-type symptoms
👎 Stomach discomfort
👎 Reflux
👎 Skin flare-ups
👎 Headaches/migraines
👎 Fatigue after eating
👎 Joint aches or inflammation
👎 Brain fog
Avoiding irritating foods for a period of time may help reduce symptoms and calm the system down.
However, simply avoiding foods does not always explain why the body has become reactive in the first place.
For some people, food intolerance is not the root cause. It is a sign that the digestive system is inflamed, irritated, under-functioning, or more permeable than it should be — sometimes referred to as "leaky gut."
And we really want to get to the root cause. Avoiding foods is actually more superficial.
Food avoidance alone can become really frustrating. You may remove one food, then another, and then another, until your diet becomes more restricted — but the deeper digestive problem is still there.
I have seen patients become more stressed by this than they were in the first place!
The deeper question: why is your gut reacting?
When the gut lining is irritated or weakened, the immune system can become more reactive to foods that would not normally be a problem.
This can happen when there are underlying issues such as:
⭐ Poor digestion
⭐ Low stomach acid
⭐ Poor bile flow
⭐ Pancreatic enzyme insufficiency
⭐ Gut inflammation
⭐ Imbalanced gut bacteria
⭐ Yeast or fungal overgrowth
⭐ Parasites or other pathogens
⭐ Long-term stress
⭐ Antibiotic use
⭐ Poor diet
⭐ Nutrient deficiencies
⭐ Leaky gut
When these deeper issues are present, the body may start reacting to more and more foods. Our advanced scan looks at these deeper factors, and we can scan supplements to try and help correct these deficiencies or imbalances.
The goal is not just to avoid foods. The goal is to heal the gut so the body becomes less reactive to those foods.
And helpfully, you can then eat those foods in moderation.
Remember, we are looking for intolerance foods, for example, those that cause bloating. We are NOT looking at IgE allergy foods, like you would get with peanuts and have to go to hospital.
What makes the Advanced Gut Healing Scan different?
Our Advanced Gut Healing Scan is designed to look beyond food intolerance.
Instead of only asking, "What foods should I avoid?", it helps us ask a deeper question:
What is stopping your gut from healing properly?
By the way, you DO get the Food Intolerance Scan included with the Advanced Gut Healing Scan.
The Advanced Gut Healing Scan is focused on the key areas involved in digestive repair, including:
✅ Digestive function
✅ Gut lining integrity
✅ Leaky gut patterns
✅ Gut inflammation
✅ Beneficial bacteria balance
✅ Yeast or fungal imbalance
✅ Parasite and pathogen stress
✅ Food reactions
✅ Nutrient needs
✅ Detoxification support
This gives us a much more complete picture of what may be driving symptoms so we can hopefully correct them at a deeper level.
You will also receive quite a large bundle of support material in the form of PDFs and emails.
Why pathogens matter
One of the key differences with the Advanced Gut Healing Scan is that we can look for patterns linked with unwanted gut stressors, such as yeast, parasites, bacterial imbalance, or other pathogen-related burdens.
These can be important because they may contribute to:
✅ Bloating
✅ Loose stools or constipation
✅ Sugar cravings
✅ Fatigue
✅ Brain fog
✅ Skin problems
✅ Recurrent digestive flare-ups
✅ Immune irritation
✅ Inflammation
✅ Food sensitivity
✅ Poor nutrient absorption
If these deeper triggers are not addressed, people may keep reacting to foods even when they are eating "well."
In other words, you can have a very clean diet and still feel unwell if the gut environment itself needs support.
In fact, it is very common to have MORE bloating and wind when you try and eat BETTER.
Leaky gut: why it matters
The gut lining acts like a protective barrier. It is designed to let nutrients through while keeping unwanted substances out.
When the gut lining becomes irritated or more permeable, larger food particles, toxins, or microbial by-products may interact more strongly with the immune system. This can increase inflammation and may contribute to food reactions, fatigue, skin issues, joint discomfort, and digestive symptoms.
This is why the Advanced Gut Healing Scan focuses not only on what to avoid, but also on what needs to be repaired. This will be done using supplements that we will also use the scanner to help narrow down. We scan many, many supplements to find your "resonance" to certain ones.
A gut-healing approach may include support for:
✅ The gut lining
✅ Digestive enzymes
✅ Stomach acid
✅ Bile flow
✅ Healthy gut bacteria
✅ Inflammation control
✅ Immune balance
✅ Nutrient replenishment
✅ Pathogen clearance
✅ Mucosal healing
We use the "5R" approach to this, which is used around the world with functional medicine practitioners. This creates a more complete healing strategy than just avoiding foods.
Food avoidance versus gut healing
Food intolerance testing often gives us a list of foods to avoid.
That can be useful, especially in the short term. You will receive this in both scans.
But long-term, the ideal outcome is not to make your diet smaller and smaller.
The ideal outcome is to improve your gut health so your body becomes more resilient, your digestion improves, and your food tolerance increases. You may be able to consume those "blasting" foods occasionally on a special occasion and, as long as you don’t overdo them, you cope just fine.
Here is the difference:
Food Intolerance Scan
Helps identify foods that may currently be irritating your system.
Advanced Gut Healing Scan
Looks at why your digestive system may be irritated in the first place — including leaky gut, inflammation, digestive weakness, bacterial imbalance, yeast, parasites, pathogens, and nutrient needs.
Which scan is right for you?
A Food Intolerance Scan may be a good starting point if you mainly want to know which foods could be triggering symptoms.
An Advanced Gut Healing Scan may be better if you have ongoing or more complex symptoms, such as:
➡️ IBS
➡️ Long-term bloating
➡️ Reflux
➡️ Constipation or loose stools
➡️ Food reactions to multiple foods
➡️ Skin flare-ups
➡️ Fatigue
➡️ Brain fog
➡️ Autoimmune-type inflammation
➡️ Joint aches
➡️ Recurring digestive problems
➡️ Symptoms that improve when you avoid foods but return again later
If you feel like you are constantly guessing what to eat, cutting out more foods, or never really getting to the root cause, the Advanced Gut Healing Scan may be the better option.
Our approach: remove, repair, rebalance, replenish
At The Perrymount Clinic, our aim is not simply to give you a list of foods to avoid.
Our aim is to help you understand what your gut needs in order to heal.
That may involve temporarily reducing irritating foods, but it may also include supporting digestion, repairing the gut lining, improving microbial balance, addressing pathogen stress, and replenishing key nutrients.
This is where deeper healing happens.
Because when the gut starts working better, the whole body often feels better.
